Orientation & Dates
First, visit the International Programs office,
located on the 2nd floor of the
Library Annex. The Library Annex is in the
middle of campus
across from the library.
Bring the following items:
-
Your I-20
-
Your passport
-
Your I-94 (a small white card that you receive on the airplane that is
usually stapled into your passport)
New students should arrive at least two weeks before classes start in
order to take a COMPASS placement test, find a place to live, and just get
settled. The test will place you in the right
English and math classes; it is not something you pass or fail and your
admission status does not depend on your test results.
You are allowed to enter
the country a maximum of 30 days before the start date on your I-20.
If you would like to
transfer to a university in the U.S. or elsewhere and earn a Bachelor's degree,
you should enroll in an Associate degree program. Certificate programs are
for people who want to gain professional skills for employment. The large
majority of our international students enroll in the Associate Degree programs.
Call or visit the International Programs (IPO) office. We can
help with almost any problem. If we can't help, we will direct you to the people
who can.
Seattle is a large city surrounded by beautiful nature. In Seattle you
will see trees, rolling hills, and bodies of water alongside skyscrapers--it's a
large city with lots of activity! Seattle’s public transportation is easy to use, and there are lots
of restaurants, activities and movie theatres near the campus. Cascadia is also
close to a major shopping mall. We have all four seasons here, but never
too much snow. While it's rumored to rain a lot, it is usually a light
rain and never stops the local people from going out!
It's easy, and now is a great time to come to Cascadia because we have new
programs which offer more opportunities to meet people! You can call or visit the International Programs
Office to find out
about scheduled activities, join the International Club, ask us to arrange an
American conversation partner, join a school sport or take advantage of
leadership opportunities. Many options are
available; come and ask us!
We highly recommend that all accepted and potential
students visit an EducationUSA center before coming to the U.S. A wealth
of information is available on their website:
http://educationusa.state.gov/. EducationUSA also conducts orientation
sessions, which we encourage our students to attend. For information on
EducationUSA advising centers, please go to:
http://educationusa.state.gov/predeparture/sources/centers.htm. They
can give you information about living and studying in the U.S. as well as tips
for your visa interview.
