WorkFirst helps low-income parents receive training to find jobs, keep jobs,
or find better jobs!
Cascadia's WorkFirst Program offers:
- FREE tuition and books
- educational planning
- student retention and support
- career services
- WorkFirst Work Study positions for some students who are Temporary
Assistance to Needy Families (TANF) recipients
The Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) also offers child care
assistance grants to individuals who are working more than 20 hours a week (or
16 hours per week in work-study position).
To qualify for FREE books and tuition, you must be:
- A low-income working parent working any number of hours per week in paid
employment
OR
- Currently receiving TANF (Temporary Assistance to Needy Families) and
eligible for training approval by DSHS
AND
- planning to enroll in a vocational training program or vocational
classes
In order to qualify, your entire household income must meet the following
guidelines:

For those not yet enrolled at Cascadia Community College:
We can help you plan your educational program, get registered, and qualify for the
WorkFirst Financial Aid program. You may enroll in full or part-time classes, credit or non-credit.
For those already enrolled at Cascadia Community College:
WorkFirst Financial Aid can help you with credit and non-credit classes if
your Federal Financial Aid does not cover the entire cost of books and tuition. We can also help
pay for the 4th quarter of the year that you do not receive Federal Financial Aid.
