Rights

What are my rights?

  • You have the right to reasonable academic accommodations providing you meet the basic requirements to perform the activities of the program or occupation. Unlike elementary and secondary schools, colleges and universities are not required to offer specially designed academic programs, or alter their requirements for either admission or for graduation.

  • You have the right to appeal any decisions made regarding academic accommodations.

  • You have the right to confidentiality. Information regarding a student's disability is considered confidential. Information will not be released without the express permission of the student.

"No qualified individual with a disability shall, by reason of such a disability, be excluded from the participation in, or be denied the benefits of the services, programs, or activities of any public entity, or be subject to discrimination by any such entity." American with Disabilities Act, 1990 (Section 202)

"No otherwise qualified handicapped individual shall on the basis of handicap, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity which recieves or benefits from Federal financial assistance." Rehabilitation Act of Congress, 1973; Title V (Section 504)
