Cascadia Community College Student Club Will Present A Public Panel On "Women In A Time Of War"
Bothell, WA - The TPC (Theory/Politics/Critique) Collective, a Cascadia Community College Student Club, announced that it will present a panel and open discussion on the topic of the impact of war on women, Tuesday, January 9, 2007, from 3:30pm until 5:30pm, in CC2-380. The presentation is in recognition of Human Rights Week. There is no charge to attend the event, and the public is invited.
"This panel will examine the impact of today’s ‘wars’ on women, on women’s rights, and on images of women," said Andrea Black, the Cascadia student who will moderate the panel. "It will address the issue of war not just from a military perspective, but also from an economic and cultural perspective. We also want to encourage an open discussion between the panel members and the audience."
The panel participants are:
- Marcy Bloom – recently awarded the lifetime achievement award by Washington ACLU for a “lifetime of staunch advocacy for civil liberties and the fundamental right to reproductive freedom."
- Lena Khalaf Tuffaha – co-founder of the Institute for Middle East Understanding, and contributing writer to Counterpunch and other independent publications.
- Kate Johnson – International Socialist Organization (ISO) member and union activist.
- Keith Feldman – co-founder of the Public Rhetorics and Permanent War Collective at the University of Washington (Seattle).
