"Global Partners, Global Challenges" Will be Topic of Presentation by EU Ambassador John Bruton

Bothell, WA - Ambassador John Bruton, the European Union Ambassador to the U.S., will discuss technology, trade and the transatlantic relationship. The event will take place in Bothell on June 26, at 7:00pm in the North Creek Café, on the campus of Cascadia Community College/University of Washington Bothell, 18325 Campus Way NE, Bothell, 98011. The presentation, Ambassador Bruton’s only Eastside appearance, will be open to the public. There is no charge to attend.

“We at Cascadia are very pleased to co-host this important visit by Ambassador Bruton,” said Dr. Bill Christopher, president of the college. “The Ambassador’s experience and his vast knowledge of international issues fits very well with Cascadia’s commitment to fostering global perspective among its students and the community.”

Cascadia Community College, in cooperation with the University of Washington Bothell, will host the presentation with assistance from the World Affairs Council and the European Union Center for Excellence at the University of Washington Seattle.

The European Union is Washington State’s largest export market and supplies nearly half of the state’s foreign investment, a crucial economic relationship for our aerospace, biotech and software industries. Moreover, Europe and the United States form a vital strategic partnership in confronting some of today’s toughest global challenges. Ambassador Bruton will address the substantial economic benefits the US-EU relationship creates, as well as the challenges we face in moving the partnership forward and in tackling the critical issues we confront in the new century.

During his tenure as Prime Minister of Ireland in the late 1990’s, Bruton helped transform the Irish economy into one of the fastest growing economies in the world. He was a leader in drafting the first-ever European Constitution and helped finalize the Stability and Growth Pact, which governs the management of the Euro. Prime Minister Bruton was also deeply involved in the Northern Irish Peace Process leading to the 1998 Good Friday Agreement.
