New Endowed Scholarship for Cascadia Students

Bothell, WA - Cascadia Community College Foundation has announced the establishment of a new endowed scholarship for Cascadia students. The endowment for the John and Margaret Bock Scholarship is being funded by a gift from Ms. Margaret Bock.

“Ms. Bock’s generous and lasting commitment to students at Cascadia is overwhelming,” said Tom Broetje, chair of the Foundation’s board of directors. “Her gift will make a difference for generations to come.”

Shortly after marrying in 1949, John and Margaret Bock moved to the Totem Lake area. John was a salesman and Margaret a homemaker. In the late 1960’s when the extension of Interstate 405 was slated to run through their property, they sold their home and moved east beyond Redmond.

Before John’s death some twenty years ago, the Bocks talked frequently of sharing their good fortune with a student or students seeking a college education. Ms. Bock has made a commitment to honor that vision. Although the Bocks did not have children of their own, Ms. Bock decided to establish the endowed scholarship to help Cascadia students reach their dreams.

Students will be able to apply for the John and Margaret Bock Scholarship for the first time in spring 2008.

The Foundation’s mission is to support the Cascadia community of lifelong learners by providing scholarships, developing relationships, and connecting resources. Created in 2000, the Cascadia Community College Foundation has grown from a fledgling 4-member board of directors that raised nearly $25,000 in its first full year of operations to an energetic board of 19 directors with a budget over $135,000 this year.
