CELEBRATING THE EARTH – BOTHELL 2005, EARTH DAY EVENTS AT CASCADIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE AND THE UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON, BOTHELL
Bothell, WA - Cascadia Community College and UW Bothell invite the public to join in celebrating Earth Day on Saturday, April 30, on the Bothell campus shared by the two schools. All ages are invited and there is no charge for attendance.
"The City of Bothell is excited to be a part of UWB/CCC's Earth Day celebration. Whenever our organizations have a chance to partner for such positive events, it only strengthens the community bond and spirit,” said City Manager Bob Stowe. “By showcasing the City's North Creek Habitat and Stream Project, our citizens will become more aware of this urban treasure."
UW Bothell and Cascadia Community College have many on-going conservation and environmental initiatives to save water and other resources, reduce electrical use and return the wetland on campus to its natural state.
"I've always wanted to check out the wetlands on campus. I'm looking forward to the guided tours,” Chelsey Quinn, UW Bothell student.
In the afternoon, from 2:00 to 5:00 pm, events will include family activities, interactive displays, and games, including rescued raptors from Wolftown, organic wild edibles, tours of the large restored wetlands, and an art display from young local artists. Local environmental groups and earth-friendly businesses will be represented. Local artist and humorist Dana Lyons (http://www.danalyons.com/), who recently released Circle the World in partnership with animal activist Jane Goodall, will perform.
“Bring your family and friends to Celebrating the Earth,” said Erin Blakeney, Associate Dean for Student Success at Cascadia. “Lots of fun activities are planned. You can see rescued raptors, learn about wild edible plants and see displays by young local artists.”
Celebrating the Earth – Bothell 2005, A Community Earth Day Event is sponsored by Cascadia Community College and the University of Washington, Bothell. The shared campus is at the intersection of SR-522 at exit 24 on I-405.
