CASCADIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE PROGRAM TO IMPROVE OFFICE SKILLS OF BILINGUAL WORKERS
Bothell, WA - Cascadia Community College.
Cascadia Community College announced the opening of a new program targeted at Spanish-English bilingual workers. Via Nueva, a two-quarter program involving advanced ESL combined with business and office technology, begins on March 29, 2005.
Gail Miulli, Dean for Student Learning at Cascadia, introduced the program by noting that “there is significant growth in demand for employees who are bilingual, for serving local customers and for interacting within the global economy.” She continued, “If you have language skills in both Spanish and English, we encourage you to take advantage of the opportunity in the Via Nueva program.”
The Business Information Technology component of the program will include self-paced courses to introduce students to basic computing and applications. Students will prepare to take the MOUS certification exams in word processing (Word), spreadsheets (Excel) and databases (Access).
The ESL component will include interacting with colleagues and customers, productive teamwork and collaboration, presentations, budgets, and communicating on the telephone and in letters and memos.
