Filmmaker to Speak at Cascadia Community College
Bothell, WA - Internationally-known independent filmmaker Bushra Azzouz will speak at an event sponsored by the Teaching and Learning Academy at Cascadia Community College on Monday, February 6, 2006, from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm. The presentation will take place in room UW2-005 on the campus shared by Cascadia Community College and UW, Bothell, at 18115 Campus Way NE, Bothell, 98011. This event is part of the Diane Gould speaker series.
Bushra Azzouz was born in Iraq and has lived in Lebanon, in native villages in Borneo and in Portland, Oregon. She has an M.A. in Film from San Francisco State University. She directed two documentary works for which she is well-known: And Women Wove It in a Basket and No News.
The website Women Make Movies describes And Women Wove It in a Basket in this way: “For the Klickitat Indians in Oregon, basket weaving is a way of reclaiming native forms and heritage. . . . Voices of the filmmakers' own quest supplement Kuneki's reflections, creating a unique tapestry of personal memory and cultural collaboration. . .”
The event will include a public screening of some of her work. The public is welcome and there is no charge.
