ARTIST STEPHEN YATES TO DISCUSS HIS ART AT CASCADIA COMMUNITY COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY OF WASHINGTON, BOTHELL
Bothell, WA - Cascadia Community College and the University of Washington, Bothell will celebrate Art in Public Places by sponsoring a slide talk and tour of recently installed paintings by Port Townsend artist Stephen Yates at 1:30 p.m. on January 16 in room 205 of the campus library.
Yates has lived in the Port Townsend area for over 20 years and has exhibited his artwork widely. He has received fellowships from Artists Trust and Art Matters. He has artwork in numerous collections including Microsoft, The City of Seattle, The City of Portland and Evergreen State College.
Yates' talk will be about his recent artwork and the tour will be an opportunity to see and discuss the 10 paintings, which make up the commission for the campus library. These large oil paintings are filled with vivid color, dramatic images and energetic brushwork. They are based on the two themes of The Four Elements and The Four Seasons and range in scale from 4' x 3' to 4' x 10'.
The commission and placement in the new campus library was made possible through funding of the Washington State Arts Commission's Art in Public Places Program. Yates is currently producing a limited edition of giclee' prints, which are based on the paintings.
The campus is located off of exit 24 (Beardslee Blvd.) on I-405. The public is invited. Parking is $1. For further information, contact the artist at yatesart@olympus.net or Cynthia Fugate at 425.352.5345.
