Sponsors for the events include the Global Human Rights Alliance, Cascadia Activities Board, Cascadia Student Government and Planet Cascadia. The goal of the activities is to facilitate learning, dialogue and critical thinking regarding global and national human rights issues and to encourage reflection on the linkage between international trends and developments at home in the areas of human rights and civil liberties.
The Human Rights Week library research guide is online at: http://www.uwb.edu/library/guides/hrweek/. The portal provides links to International Human Rights resources, as well as more specific websites and sources about women's rights and human rights in Africa.
The timing of the events builds on International Human Rights Day and prepares for Martin Luther King, Jr. Day. December 10th is recognized throughout the world as International Human Rights Day. On this day in 1948, the United Nations adopted and proclaimed the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
