UWB/CCC Site (Pre-Construction)
6
Site Construction- August 1998
  • In order to remove as much of the well-established non-native species as possible, approximately two feet of the original soil and associated vegetation was scraped and removed from the restoration site.

Site Construction – October 1999
9
Site Construction – October 2000
10
Site Construction – May 2001
  • Micro-depressions were added to the floodplain to capture water and to increase the length of time that water remained within the ecosystem

Restoration Compliance Monitoring
  • Permits issued by the Federal Government, the State of Washington and the City of Bothell, require that monitoring of the site be conducted for ten years from the starting date July, 1, 2002 (also known as time zero).

  • Monitoring Reports will:
  • Summarize and analyze the data collected for that monitoring interval
  • Provide the results and any recommendations
  • Provide an overview of the functional status of the restored ecosystem
  • Identify and trigger any necessary contingency measures to assure that projects are achieved
16
From Monitoring to Maintenance
17
Maintenance Recommendations
  • The Wetlands Maintenance Team responds to these recommendations performing:

  • Control & Removal of Non-Native Invasive Species
  • Planting: Re-planting phase one planting failures, Conifer Planting (under maturing deciduous cover) and replanting trees cut by beavers
  • Nursery Care, Tree & Plant Propagation
  • Piezometer data collection (underground water flow)

How are we doing?
  • Year 3 Compliance Monitoring Results:

  • 75% of Project Standards have been achieved.
    • 100% of hydrologic & biogeochemical
    • 33% of plant community
    • 75% of faunal support / habitat

  • 4 of 6 Project Targets have been achieved.
